Digital Native or Digital Immigrant?

I feel like I am right on the line that separates a digital native and a digital immigrant. As a child growing up in the 90’s and early 2000’s I always had the latest technology for the time. I had my own television and multiple game systems. I also played games and completed homework assignments on the computer and learned how to type and navigate the Internet at school. I had a CD player and upgraded to an IPod when they first came out. I also had technology-based toys such as the digital pets and electronic games. Cell phones became popular when I was in junior high, however my parents did not allow me to have one until my sophomore year of high school. When I got to college, smart phones and social media were emerging and I started using MySpace and Facebook. Over the years, as the technology became more advanced I was easily able to adjust and learn quickly. Now I am finding that as I get older and as more and more media and technology is becoming available I am less able to keep up. There are so many new outlets for social media and "apps" that kids are using that I am not even aware exist let alone know how to use them.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Allie Sibilia and I am a student in the M.Ed. in TESL program here at RIC. I work as a teacher in the Head Start program in Providence and this upcoming school year will already be my fifth year teaching! I recently got engaged and am in the midst of planning my wedding. In my free time I love traveling, going to the beach and getting together with family and friends. I am excited to have a relaxing (hopefully) yet very busy summer!
